At the most unexpected moment, the screen goes out, then all the programs are not hung at the right time, then the newly charged battery bores again on the power unit. All this from time to time leads us to white heat, until the point of our boiling reaches a maximum.

Then we decide on the cardinal measures: look into the "holy of holies" of our laptop, and determine the cause of all its whims. Often, the legs of all computer troubles come from the battery. It is she who most quickly fails and is most easily recoverable. And blame everything for its improper operation.

"O-oh-uh-uh-uh-uh battery": we open, look, repair, collect

A stationery knife, a small hammer, fixing a vice, working gloves - no, this is not a set for a maniac. All this is useful to you in the process of penetration into the battery of your laptop. And right now we will tell you in more detail, how to disassemble a laptop battery, nothing while not breaking and not losing.

1. Step one  - We pull out the ill-fated battery from our laptop and fix it with the help of a vice.
2. Step Two  - We begin to gradually separate one part of the battery from the other. Do this strictly in the place of their bonding. In the seam of the battery, you should carefully place the clerical knife and tap it with a small hammer. The battery at us not concrete, therefore its joints will start to disperse slowly. What is a battery?

Before picking up stabbing and cutting objects, it is worth to learn what will have to deal with: accumulator battery  - a monoblock, which includes several separate elements, connected in series and in parallel.

Over time, the battery capacity decreases. This is due to the chemical reactions that take place inside the elements (cans) - there life is boiling! Even if the battery is not connected to the device, the processes do not stop.

It is for this reason that you should pay attention to the date of production of the battery (just like when buying perishable products).

Although in the case of batteries, the period of their suitability is measured not by days and weeks, but by years. A year the battery loses up to 10% capacity. But the aging of each individual element is not the same. It is reasonable to assume that the operation "Autopsy" is carried out precisely because of these elements.

Why do elements fly?

This happens for several reasons:

• Overheating, resulting in a fuse;
• Accelerated wear of individual elements;
• A controller error that "does not see" part of the cans;

It's enough to get one "black sheep" in the set of elements, as the overall efficiency of the battery drops. But what is their value if the battery is dead?

Well, how dead / not dead - an autopsy will show. Suddenly it can still be brought back to life? In a word, away all the torments and - for the cause!

"... a scalpel ... scissors ... a tampon!"

This is a joke, of course. Surgical instruments are not useful, but the assembly knife is just right. Not all batteries are collapsible, more precisely - mostly non-assembled. We shall consider this case.

Opening

The battery case consists of two halves, connected in the factory by the method of hot pressing. To cut it is necessary on a joint. For convenience, you can heat the tip of the blade and it will go like clockwork. The depth of penetration should not exceed 1.5-2 mm, so as not to damage the elements inadvertently. Therefore, it is better not to hurry.

A little patience, and you will be rewarded - the casket will open like an oyster shell, and your look will appear "33 heroes" in the film, lying in a strict order. In fact, the elements will be smaller - from 6 cans of cylindrical shape.

Check the elements

If the average temperature in the hospital is known, i.e. you know for sure that the battery has died, but now you need to find out the health of each patient - the performance of each battery cell. To do this, you need a multimeter. How to use it, I will not explain: since you started all the hard, then such things should be known to you.

First you need to take measurements bypassing the controller: if the reading is equal to or exceeds 3.7, multiplied by the number of cans, then the case in the controller. By the way, in order not to forget: before you open the battery of your laptop, make sure that you have order with the power supply. The controller is responsible for charging and discharging, preventing overloads. If the elements are orderly, but in general the battery does not "hold", then the matter is in the controller - it just "does not see" the elements.

In this case, there is a variant of flashing the controller (if there is no mechanical damage, of course). But this will require special equipment. In "domestic" conditions, this operation is not implemented. But you can be happy that the banks are intact. Below I will tell you what you can do with them.

In cases where the controller is in order, with "ringing" of each element individually, suitable banks are identified, and unfit ones are discarded.

And what if you replace all the banks and restore the battery?

A good idea is to replace non-working banks with new ones and return the battery to life. But! - indicators of new elements should be identical. How can this be achieved if the old have wear and tear? Only with the help of special equipment. Or replace all the banks.

Replacement of cans - the procedure is laborious, requiring qualification. It is not always possible to solder the elements qualitatively, and for spot welding equipment is required. It is still possible that the controller will need to be flashed for new elements.

Where can I get lithium-ion batteries almost for nothing?

When I found out about it, I even thought that I can try to transfer the UPS to Li-ion traction, after the original lead battery stops "holding" the load.

The question may arise: what is the point of buying these batteries, if you know about their failure ...

In batteries from laptops, the banks are connected in parallel and in series. In this case, the charge / discharge controller of the battery constantly monitors the voltage on each parallel-connected group of cans. If the voltage deviates from the norm, the controller will disconnect the entire battery. Due to the variation in the parameters of individual cans, this situation can occur even when the battery life is far from complete. Therefore, very often in a battery, recognized as unusable, some of the cans are quite workable. I have been successfully exploiting such banks for years, which have remained after repair of batteries. The fact is that when repairing such batteries, it was necessary to replace all banks at once, which led to the formation of illiquid assets.

How to disassemble a laptop battery?

Batteries laptops and netbooks are available in non-separable packages, but, nevertheless, you can disassemble such a case for only a few minutes.

For disassembly we will need a conventional construction knife with a replaceable blade and a washer of suitable thickness.

We extend the handle from the handle to the minimum length and fix it. Then we put on the blade a washer of such thickness that the part of the blade protruding above the washer is no more than 1.5-2mm.

We cut the seam between the halves of the battery case along the entire perimeter.

To ensure that the banks are securely fixed in the battery case, the manufacturer, usually before assembly, lubricates one (or both) of the housing halves with a non-drying glue, and inserts pieces of double-sided adhesive tape from the other side. This can somewhat complicate the disassembly even when the edges of the body halves are already separated from each other.

But, a little patience, and we get access to the battery banks.

Today, lithium-ion batteries are used wherever possible, but still not many know that they can be dismantled from broken laptop batteries and netbooks, and they are more likely to serve in many amateur radio amateur games. Where can I get the lithium-ion batteries for free?  If your amateur radio arsenal or your acquaintances do not have old batteries, you can get them without significant material costs. To do this, place in the local flea markets an announcement about the purchase of non-working batteries from laptops, and within a week you will simply be flooded with offers, and many are ready to part with them for a pack of juice or a bottle of soda.

Some readers will say: what is the point of buying defective batteries? In batteries from laptops and netbooks, the banks are connected in parallel and in series. In this case, the charge controller constantly monitors the voltage on each group of cans, and in some cases even on each one. If the voltage on them deviates from the recommended values, the controller will disconnect the entire battery. Because of the huge spread of parameters, this situation often occurs when the battery life is still quite large. And in a non-working battery, most of the cans are completely serviceable. And in the event of a malfunction of the charge controller or the temperature sensor, all individual batteries may turn out to be good.

How to disassemble a laptop battery if they are manufactured in non-separable housings? In fact, to disassemble such a case a matter of a few minutes. For dismantling, we need an ordinary construction knife with a removable blade and a washer of the required thickness.

The blade of the knife is set to the minimum length and fix it. Then we put on the blade a washer of small thickness, so that the part projecting above the washer is about 1.5-2mm.
